Community Involvement

Wally and his wife, Carolyn Kruger, are very much a part of the local community. Soon after moving his business to Round Hill in 1985, Wally was instrumental in helping the town renovate the old Ford Store building for use as the town office. He has also served on several town and community committees. He met Carolyn in 1994 at The Old Furniture Factory and they married in 1996. Together they formed The Round Hill Arts Center which was housed in The Old Furniture Factory Building until moving to Hill High Orchards in 2009. The Old Furniture Factory continues to be a venue for art, music, and community based activities, and is especially well known for its monthly bluegrass jam session held on the last Friday of each month.
Carolyn and Wally are also active in the international community. Carolyn is Senior Advisor for Maternal and Child Health/Nutrition. Her career has recently taken her to numerous third world countries including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Haiti, Sudan, Mozambique and Malawi. In 1999 Carolyn and Wally formed Genesis International, a 501(3)(c) charitable organization dedicated to helping communities in high poverty areas of Africa build their capacity for providing health, nutrition and educational support for their orphans and vulnerable children.
